On 22nd October, 2016 I travelled to Malawi with my great friend and SSF team member, Wendy Harrington. The purpose of our trip was to launch Dream Big Global, the project for Malawi founded by Charity Nkosi at the Sue Stone Foundation training in November, 2015. Here we are with Dr. Mary Shawa from the Government who is also a Trustee of the project.
Many of you kindly donated clothes, educational toys and money for the women and children. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS.
We visited Maula Prison in Lilongwe to take clothes for the children, who bless them have no idea they are in prison!
We went on a road trip to spend a couple of nights at Lake Malawi. Whilst we had many official meetings in the capital, Lilongwe, stopping off in the villages and spending time with the locals was amazing and wonderfully enriching.
A typical Malawian Village
Lake Malawi was a wonderful experience too and we made friends with some of the locals. The tide remained out a long way due to a shortage of rain over some time. We were fascinated to watch the cows walk across the beach every day.
On our return from the lake we came across these amazing crafts on the roadside and I bought a landrover and trailer!
Our last day in Lilongwe we met with the government ministers for the official launch and we were also invited to meet with the British High Commissioner.
All in all a truly humbling and enriching experience and I’m looking forward to returning to the warm heart of Africa very soon.
